Fun party fact: while most people assume that Jonathan is the more formal version of John, it’s actually the longer version of the Hebrew name Nathan. In the Bible, Jonathan was the son of King Saul and the best friend of David (of David and Goliath fame.) The name has always been a boy name favorite, and while it’s been waning in popularity from its heyday, it still remains a top choice among parents.
