You can thank The Beatles for Michelle’s entrace into the girl name hall of fame in the 70s and 80s. Their song “Michelle” apparently inspired parents all over to name their daughters the feminine form of Michael. However, much like other names that were popular at the time, Michelle took a nosedive in popularity and finally fell out of the Top 100 in 2008. First Lady Michelle Obama may bring about a revival of the name, but only time will tell.
