Romy

The name Romy is a girl's name of German origin. Austrian actress Romy Schneider seemed to be the singular bearer of this international nickname name until it found new style currency in the past decade. Like other Ro-names — Roman, Rowan, and Romeo — Romy has gained favor with the celebrity set. Matt Lauer has a daughter named Romy, as do director Sofia Coppola and Phoenix frontman Thomas Mars and others. Some might remember the 1997 comedy Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion, with Mira Sorvino as Romy. Romy hasn't entered the US Top 1000 as yet, but it's Number 71 in the Netherlands and 160 in France. And its definitely one of the coolest girl names starting with R. In Spanish-speaking countries, Romy is also a diminutive of Romina, and was very popular in the eighties and early nineties.
